Generations of Dedication

The winery and vineyards are located in Dry Creek Valley, an American Viticultural Area we helped form. Renowned as prime land for grape growing high quality wines are the result. The climate, where the development in ripening grapes is protected from the heat by the marine fog intrusion in the evenings, is singular and unparalleled. Pedroncelli wines are regionally focused and site specific and we’ve learned to pair the right varietal with the best site creating great character.

Did you know? Half of all Zinfandel planted in Sonoma County is in Dry Creek Valley; it’s been growing here since the 1860s and on our ranch since the early 1900s. Today there are 2500 acres planted valley wide in the smallest of the four major appellations.

Cover Crops

Planting cover crops improve the land, natural fertility, control erosion and host beneficial insects. Barley, oats, and bell beans are all grown naturally and are chopped and turned into the soil to replenish nitrogen and oxygen and naturally prevent soil compaction.

No Synthetic Pesticides

Synthetic pesticides are not used on our Home Ranch vineyards. Cover crops provide habitat to attract beneficial insects that prey on insect pests.

Hand Pruning and Harvesting

Where possible, all pruning, thinning and harvesting on our home ranch is done by hand reducing carbon emissions from mechanical equipment. Insect pests. mildew and bunch rot are reduced through leaf removal and canopy management thus reducing the need for synthetic fungicides.

Composting

Compost of grape pomace, vineyard prunings, and other mature organic materials are spread in the vineyard to replenish the soil and stems are spread on roadways for erosion control.

Terraced Vineyards

Hillside vineyards are terraced and drainage is engineered to minimize water erosion.

Leaf Removal

Insect pests, powdery mildew and bunch rot are reduced through leaf removal and canopy management thus reducing the need for synthetic fungicides.

DRY CREEK HABITAT ENHANCEMENT PROJECT

Pedroncelli Winery is proud to be part of the Dry Creek Habitat Enhancement project, working to restore our creek to its original flow and restore the original ecosystem so that wildlife Cu, thrive. This development would use boulders, root wads and logs to create backwaters, side channels and shady habitats for the young fish that live in Dry Creek during the summer.

Ultimately the project is intended to restore our creek to its original flow and restore the original ecosystem so that wildlife can thrive. We, as landowners, have agreed to partici-pate in the program and are proud to continue this worthy venture.
